Bleed and Trims
All printed elements that are not intended to bleed off should be a minimum of 5mm within the pages edge. This will ensure trim tolerances are maintained.
Allow at least 5mm bleed for print components that do run off the pages edge.
Folding
To prevent paper cracking on the fold we recommend that you include the scoring option on your quote request.
Booklet Creep
Page creep will occur on booklet jobs due to the gutter in the spine. Creep refers to the amount of printed paper visually lost according to the page location in the book.
To prevent any loss of necessary print on all page numbers, non bleed image and text should be kept at least 10mm within the trims on the gutters edge.
Blacks
Solid black areas should be made up of 60% Cyan, 50% Magenta, 50% Yellow, 100% Black to give a strong rich colour. However this break up only applies on CMYK jobs. Print jobs that are black and pms should have black set up as 100k only. Set fine text in 100% k to prevent registration allowance.
Colours
Make sure all colours are nominated correctly as PMS or CMYK. PMS stands for Pantone Matching System and CMYK is the abbreviation for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. The four standard colours, CMYK are used to mix and make any standard colour in the printing process.
Hardcopy Proofing
We can provide online, form and colour contract proofs, depending on the job specifics. Whilst all CMYK prints will have a form and contract proof, it's not always necessary that you see them. For that reason we don't always allow the cost of sending proofs to you. Additionally, on occasion we will put more than one proof on a single piece of paper. Again, if we do this we will not be sending you a proof to check. Please advise upon requesting your quote if you require a hard or soft copy proof.
Font Paths
If your file is only a one off print than please convert your text to paths / outlines. If you would like us to be able to use the font in file for a web-to-print business card than please export and pack the Indesign file and send it to us whole. Do not outline the text.
Images in print
All images must be saved as CYMK and 300dpi. RGB images will not be printed.
PDF files
The PDF file format is by far the easiest and fastest way to send us your print file. Not only are PDF files complete (with no missing fonts or links) but they hold true colour management, trapping and open pre-press information. Most PDF files are small enough in size that they can be sent via email or via our ftp.
Sending art via email
If you are sending your files through e-mail, please make sure that you send it in response to the email quote you've received. If you're uploading your art to our FTP than name the file as your company name and job description.
Urgent Deliveries
If delivery is urgent, please nominate the date requirement when quoting in the quote additional field, to check your deadline is achievable.
There are three easy ways you can send your print files through to us for prinitng. If the file isn't too large you can email it through. For larger files though, you can use either of the two free website print file tools, HighTail or MailBigFile.
If you already have a quote number, please remember to include it in the email or message when you send your art file through.
What is Web to Print
Also known as Web2Print, it's the remote publishing or print via e-commerce and is a broad term that refers to the practice of doing print business using web sites or online.
Companies and software solutions that deal in web-to-print often bleed into more standard e-commerce and online services like hosting, website design, and cross medial marketing, just like GNMG. The growing popularity of the internet has opened up opportunities for commercial printers to communicate with their partners and customers to do things like submit print jobs, do online previews and manage content from online. Web-to-print increasingly calls for a Portable Document Format (PDF) workflow environment with output provided by digital printing; although there is certainly no requirement that fulfillment be accomplished using digital production equipment; web-to-print is also used today by printers with both offset and digital production facilities. It is frequently possible for clients to upload their own unique content for automated print production. This may be termed Ad Hoc printing. When a press is used for the final output, the template usually is transformed into a PDF file that serves as the "master plate" for the press.
